01 — What we do
Disposal work we do
Disposals are simple machines, so most problems have a short list of causes.
-
Jams and humming
We clear jams, loosen a stuck flywheel, and check the motor and reset button.
-
Leak repair
Leaks at the sink flange, dishwasher connection, or drain pipe can often be resealed. A leak from the body of the unit usually means it's done.
-
Won't turn on
We check the reset, the switch, and the power to the unit before calling the motor dead.
-
Replacement
We remove the old unit and install a new one suited to how your household cooks.
-
New installs
Adding a disposal where there wasn't one, including the drain connection and dishwasher hookup.
-
Drain line clearing
When the disposal runs but the sink won't drain, the clog is often past it. We clear the line.
02 — Signs
Signs your disposal needs help
Turn off the power at the switch before you poke around, then check for these.
- Hums but doesn't spin
- Won't turn on at all, even after pressing reset
- Water leaking from the bottom of the unit
- Sink drains slowly or backs up when it runs
- Grinding or rattling noises that weren't there before
- A bad smell that comes back no matter how you clean it
Local
Garbage disposals in Florida kitchens
Hard water and Florida humidity are rough on disposals. Mineral scale and corrosion can wear seals and the grinding chamber, and units under sinks in humid homes can rust faster. When the body of a disposal starts leaking, that's usually the end of the unit rather than something to repair.
Many Tampa Bay homes have older kitchen drain lines, including cast iron in some older houses. A disposal doesn't make food vanish; it sends it down the drain. Fibrous peels, grease, coffee grounds, and eggshells can build up in the line, and that buildup is behind a lot of the kitchen clogs we clear.
If your home is on a septic system, as some homes in the outlying parts of the area are, a disposal adds solids to the tank. That doesn't rule one out, but it's worth using it sparingly and asking your septic provider whether your pumping schedule should change.
03 — Process
How a disposal call goes
-
Diagnose
We check power, the reset, the flywheel, and the connections to find the real problem.
-
Repair or replace
If it's fixable, we fix it. If it's leaking from the body or the motor is gone, we'll recommend a new unit and walk you through the manufacturer's warranty.
-
Install and test
We install, connect the drain and dishwasher, run water, and check every connection for leaks.

Why is my garbage disposal humming but not working?
Usually something is wedged between the flywheel and the grinding ring, so the motor can't turn. Turn off the power at the switch first. Many units have a hex socket on the bottom for working a jam loose. If it still hums or keeps tripping the reset, the motor may be failing and it's time to call us.
What should never go down a garbage disposal?
Grease and oil, fibrous foods like celery and corn husks, potato peels, coffee grounds, eggshells, bones, and large amounts of pasta or rice. They either jam the unit or build up in the drain line farther down. Run cold water while it's on, and feed food in gradually.
Is it worth repairing a garbage disposal?
If it's jammed, tripped, or has a loose connection, yes; those are quick fixes. If it's leaking from the body, the motor is failing, or the unit is many years old and corroded, replacement usually makes more sense. We'll tell you plainly which side of that line yours is on.
