01 — What we do
What we handle after hours
When the A/C stops in Tampa Bay heat, it can't wait for a convenient day. We take emergency calls around the clock.
-
No cooling at all
We find out why the system won't start or won't cool, whether it's electrical, a failed part, or a refrigerant problem.
-
Failed capacitors and contactors
These are common causes of a sudden shutdown in hot weather, and often a straightforward repair.
-
Float switch shutdowns and overflow
We clear backed-up condensate lines and get the system running again without water coming through the ceiling.
-
Breakers that keep tripping
We track down the electrical fault instead of resetting the breaker again and again.
-
Post-storm checks
After a storm, flood, or power surge, we check the system before you run it if you're not sure it's safe.
02 — Signs
Check these before you call
A few quick checks can sometimes get the A/C running again, or at least tell us where to start.
- Breaker: check the A/C and air handler breakers. Reset a tripped one once; if it trips again, leave it off.
- Thermostat: make sure it's set to cool, set below room temperature, and the screen isn't blank (try fresh batteries).
- Filter: a clogged filter can ice up the coil and stop cooling. Replace it if it's dirty.
- Condensate float switch: if the drain pan is full or the switch has tripped, the system shuts off to prevent an overflow.
- Outdoor unit: make sure it's running and nothing is blocking it.
- Ice on the lines: turn cooling off and set the fan to on so the coil can thaw before we get there.

Staying safe when the A/C fails in Florida heat
A house without A/C in a Tampa Bay summer can heat up quickly, and the humidity makes it feel worse. Older adults, infants, people with health conditions, and pets are more vulnerable to heat. If anyone in the home is struggling, don't wait on the repair. Move them somewhere cool, like a relative's home or a public cooled space.
While you wait, close blinds on sunny windows, run ceiling fans, keep everyone drinking water, and stay on the lowest floor. Fans help people feel cooler but don't lower the room temperature, so they aren't enough on their own on very hot days. If someone shows signs of heat illness, call 911.
Hurricane season adds another layer. After a power outage, a surge or flooding can damage the outdoor unit or electrical parts. If the condenser sat in water or you smell burning, leave the system off and call us. Turning it on before it's checked can make the damage worse.

What should I do if my AC stops working in the middle of the night?
Check the breaker, thermostat, filter, and float switch first. If there's ice on the system, turn cooling off and run the fan. If none of that helps, call or text us at 727-732-4357; we answer 24/7. Meanwhile, close blinds, run ceiling fans, and keep vulnerable family members and pets cool.
My AC breaker keeps tripping. Can I keep resetting it?
No. Reset it once. If it trips again, leave it off. A breaker that keeps tripping is protecting the system from an electrical problem, such as a shorted compressor, a failing motor, or a bad connection. Repeated resets can damage the equipment or create a safety risk. Call us to find the fault.
Why did my AC shut off with the drain pan full of water?
That's usually the float switch doing its job. When the condensate drain line clogs, water backs up into the pan and the switch shuts the system off to prevent an overflow. The line needs to be cleared before the A/C will run normally. Call us and we'll clear it and get you running again.
